  • How does solar work?
    1. Solar panels produce (DC power) when direct sunlight hits them. 2. Solar Invters connected to solar panels converts the (DC power) to (AC power) and send power to your homes main panel and power your home. 3. Any power that your solar system produces that your home does not use is sent to PNMs power grid in exchange for a energy credit.
  • Do solar panels still work at night, cloudy days or when they have snow on top?
Solar panels do not work at night, they only work when they are getting hit by direct sunlight. This is why solar systems are designed to produce the energy a home needs day and night during the day when it recieves direct sunlight. During the day the energy you need for the night produced by your solar system is sent to PNMs power grid in exchange for a energy credit. At night when your solar system does not produce power your exisiting PNM power meter outisde your home will feed you power from PNMs grid. Your existing PNM power meter outside your home will continue to be there after you go solar and will remain activated and connected to PNMs power grid and will kick in and feed power to your home anytime your solar system is not producing enough energy or no energy at all. During cloudy days solar panels will only work when they recieve direct sunlight when they are covered by a cloud they do not produce energy. Solar panels do not work when covered by snow or anything else. Solar panels produce energy only when they recieve direct sunlight form the sun. But don't worry the amount of direct sunlight hours your home gets year round after rainy, cloudy and snowy days is calculated and is used to determine your solar system size.
  • What if I need more power than what my solar system is producing in that moment?
Your exisitng PNM power meter outside your home will remain there after going solar and will still be connected to PNMs grid. In the event your solr system is not feeding enough power to your home your exisiting PNM power meter will kick in instantly and feed you power from the grid. Your home will never be without power and will never expierence power surges due to insufficient power not being delivered to your home by your solar system or in the event your solar system stopped working.
